Barbara's bio
I am a producer/filmmaker using digital technology for positive social change. I have made documentaries for Channel 4 and Carlton TV and shown my films on FourDocs, Current TV, The Community Channel, art galleries, conferences, film festival platforms and have toured the length and breadth of Cornwall promoting Cornish films in rural settings.
I am Director of Awen Productions CIC with over 15 years of professional media experience and rural community participation. I use inclusive methods in my films to change minds, give new perspectives and inspire action.
Awen is an award winning media production social enterprise set up in 2006 and based in West Cornwall. Our work inspires and empowers communities by telling their stories in a variety of digital formats. We exhibit and distribute our work in galleries, museums, festivals, The Community Channel, village halls, on-line and DVDs.
The ethos at the heart of awen productions is the creative use of digital media – film, photography, web and cultural heritage apps – as tools for positive social change. Our productions grow out of long-term relationships with our communities using integrated, participatory approaches.
Awen has gained regional, national and international recognition producing films and digital media on subjects as diverse as rural issues, archive, local heritage/history, human rights, youth culture, farming, globalisation and the environment.
